Directions
DRIVING DIRECTIONS
Take FDR Drive to Grand Street exit. Continue on Grand through 5 traffic lights. The 5th light is Columbia Street. The 6th Light is EAST Broadway. Park on street or turn at Columbia and go for one block to corner of Columbia and Delancey to the pay parking lot.
SUBWAY DIRECTIONS
Take F train downtown to East Broadway stop. Walk east (AWAY from China Town, your back to the Twin Towers) on East Broadway to the intersection of East Broadway and Grand. (This is a historic "walk" on the Lower East Side. You will pass the original buildings of the Yiddish daily, The Forward, the still active building of the Educational Alliance, and a myriad of Yiddish and Hebrew Associations, Synagogues and Shtiblach).
504 GRAND IS A LANDMARK BUILDING
"The Amalgamated" is the first Co-Op in NYC built in the early 1930's by the Amalgamated Clothing Worker's Union. The six storey high building is built around an interior courtyard. (You may have noticed the scenes of the courtyard and auditorium in the movie "Crossing Delancey.")
TO ENTER COURTYARD FROM STREET
At the corner of the building is Moishe's Bakery. Along side of the bakery is a sidewalk at a slight incline leading to steps. Follow this sidewalk and steps to enter interior courtyard. (The entryways are located in the courtyard and are NOT visible from the street.) From this inner courtyard, bear RIGHT to entryway E and buzz E44 to open main entry. Stairs to 4th floor.
